About Us

Our
Story

In 1976, Bill & Sharon Kingcott and Wes McCurdy started a small manufacturing company in Victoria, British Columbia to provide fishermen with quality fishing gear. Using Bill’s knowledge after many years as a commercial fisherman and Wes’ knowledge of creating and fixing machinery, they were able to build custom machines to manufacture the products they wanted to produce.

Working in the office, Sharon became the face and voice of the company as most of our customers are not in Victoria.

The business started with the brass connectors and markers as well as the legendary yellow cedar gaff. The gaff was patented in 1976 for the oval handle, allowing the fishermen to know exactly where the hook was without even looking. 50 years later, these are still the staple products of the company and can be found on the decks of commercial and sports fishermen up and down the west coast.

Colin started working in the shop when it started and ended up working with Wes and learned how to create new machines as they were needed while supporting the manufacturing of the products.

Unfortunately, in 2011, we lost Sharon to Leukemia. It was a hard year!

In 2012, Colin and his wife, Laura purchased the company and continued the family business at their house in Sooke with the help of their children.

In 2026, we were able to celebrate 50 years in business and we look forward to more!
